Day hikes near Mendoza City
The province of Mendoza has a lot to offer: the Andes range occupies the western half of the territory, the at the eastern half we have the flatlands, and in the south, we can find lower Andes and volcanoes.
This being said we can ensure that Mendoza City is more than just wine. This beautiful city is located at the feet of The Andes. In just one hour you can have a great trekking or hiking experience. El Salto Waterfall
This beautiful trail starts in El Salto Village, at higher Potrerillos, an hour and a half from Mendoza City. The trail to the waterfall takes about for hours. When arriving you can take a moment to enjoy a picnic lunch with an amazing view.
El Salto Wetlands
Starting at the same Village as El Salto Waterfall, this trail is an easy hike achievable by anyone who wants to live peace, nature and pleasant landscapes. Perfect for a picnic and enjoy the day relaxing.
Campanario Peak
If you are looking for a soft option for hiking in Mendoza, this one is just perfect. The trail begins in La Crucecita Village, a very picturesque village with stone houses. The trail starts as a meandric path through a wet canyon. In the end, there is a short climb to the summit, where you will get an amazing view. To celebrate you will be able to toll the bell at the summit.
Plata Range
During this challenging hike, you will reach 3.650 m.a.s.l in Lomas Blancas peak. But you will also climb Arenales Peak (3.400 m.a.s.l.) and Andresito Pack (3.150 m.a.s.l.). From these peaks, we will enjoy magnificent views of Potrerillos Valley and it’s namesake dam. Truly beautiful scenery with long canyons, moraines and glaciers makes this trail a perfect option for hiking in Mendoza.
Aconcagua Circuit
When living Mendoza City you pass through Plata Range, crossing typical Andean Villages, Potrerillos Dam and some Archaeological and natural valued Ruins. When arriving to Los Hocones the adventure begins. In Aconcagua Park, you will enjoy the beautiful Horcones Lagoon and the panoramic Horcones Valley, where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Aconcagua Peak.
Confluencia
Another option in Aconcagua Park is a three hours hike into a magnificent landscape, following a narrow trail between moraines, glacier streams and massive mountains of Central Andes Range. Confluencia is the first approach camp in the Aconcagua normal route. Here you will see how many climbers get ready for the highest peak in America.
Veguitas Camp
Veguitas Camp is the last wet plateau on the way to the highest peaks of The Andean Frontal Range. This is a soft and easy option for hiking in Mendoza. The panoramic view from the mountain is perfect to have a picnic at the top.
