Ushuaia Hiking: Best half and full day hikes
OJO DEL ALBINO – Full Day
In this 18 km high level hiking adventure in Ushuaia you will see the beautifulness of the Fuegian Andes and how its landscapes change as you go all over it. Forests, valleys, peat bogs and high Andes vegetation are the first sights you will be amazed of. We go over humid forest mud and rocky terrains. We begin with an easy level trek to Esmeralda lagoon, and when the forest ends, our challenge begins, going up a rocky area in our way to the Ojo del Albino glacier.

CERRO DOS BANDERAS – Full day
If you like to combine natural and cultural adventures, this hiking is for you! In a hidden side of Ushuaia, there are “mountain districts” within the forest and foothills. There is a road that take us to the valley of Cerro dos Banderas (Dos Banderas Hill) and while we go up through the forest, we will enjoy a unique high mountain vegetation with its cushions of yareta. During the trekking, you also will be able to get delight in the views of the city, the Beagle Cahannel, Ushuaia Bay and the Fuegian Mounain Rage. From the top of the hill you will see a very particular ecosystem of Tierra del Fuego that turns into red the valleys.

LAGUNA TURQUESA Y MONTE CARABAJAL – Full Day.
Hiking in Ushuaia to the Turquoise Lagoon and the Carabajal Mountain are one of the most attractive tours because of its varied natural scenes it has. Arriving to our first stop takes only one hour, going through the forest. We will find a view of the Lagoon, and due to its characteristic color it seems to be an eye at the bottom of the valley. Our day goes on ascending by the Gotama ridge towards a rocky path that takes us to the summit of Mount Carabajal. This path to the top is not that difficult and will show us marvelous sights of the Carabajal Valley and its wetlands. Depending on the weather conditions, we have lunch in this site and then we return through the Olum Valley.

MONTE SUSANA – half day
Monte Susana has approximately 500 meters high and its origin is glacier. It is located at 8 km from Ushuaia and it has one of the most beautiful sightseeing. In this hiking you go into the forest and depending on the weather conditions, you have to wear different types of shoes (snowshoes, hiking boots or crampons). One of the first amazing views is the city of Ushuaia surrounded by mountains and the Beagle Channel. As the trekking continues, vegetation let us be surprised with new views to the Chilean Hoste and Navarino Islands. When we arrive to the highest point in this hiking, we enjoy landscapes from the Tierra del Fuego National Park and the Darwin mountain range.

CERRO CORTEZ – Half day
Beautiful and stunning landscapes are waiting for you at this trekking! Starting with an easy hike into the native lenga forest and then passing by steep slopes, after an hour we go out the limit of vegetation, which has given us an amazing view of the Ushuaia Bay. Once we arrive, we will appreciate a very close views of Portillo Hill and Mount Olivia, the Beagle Channel and its islands. In this place is common to see large birds called Condoreras.

VINCIGUERRA ICE TREK – Full day
The Vinciguerra Glacier is one of the most important glacier of Tierra del Fuego because of the peatlands that surround it. The water melted from the glacier makes up the Laguna de los Tempanos (Ice Floes Lagoon). In this trek you will enjoy different great landscapes in a few kilometers such as valleys, rivers, sub-Antarctic flora and mountain environment with its stunning colors.

LAGUNA ESMERALDA – Half day
The path to Esmeralda Lagoon is located at the Valle Tierra Mayor Natural Reserve. At the beginning of the trek there is a native forest and the walk continues between woods and peat grounds until the landscape turns into a high mountain environment. The great colour of the water is given because of the sediments coming down in it from the Ojo Del Albino Glacier. In winter, trees are full of snow and the lagoon is frozen and everything is combined with spectacular views waiting to be enjoyed!

Cueva de Jimbo & Paso de la Oveja
This trek lead us to an ice cave located inside the Tierra del Fuego National Park. It is next to Paso de la Oveja. Along this path you will walk through beautiful forests, have incredible views of mountains, glaciers and high mountains lagoons like Laguna Del Caminante. Also native animals might be seen, like birds and if you are lucky, some beavers too!

This medium level 3-day hiking tour starts in Ushuaia and is recommended for people with or without experience and it can be adapted to each client level, maintaining the essence of this 25 km tour. You will enjoy incredible views including valleys, peat bogs, beavers, mountains and lagoons. As is very important to be comfortable during this adventure, we have Base Camp mode, which means sleeping at the same place so you do not charge with extra weight these days during the trekking.
