Embark on a Neuquén Horseback Riding Expedition deep in northern Patagonia, where Araucaria forests, basalt canyons, and wild rivers carve an untouched landscape. From Caviahue–Copahue to the Río Agrio and its volcanic hot springs, this remote horse trek in Patagonia is led by a fifth-generation ranch family. Routes may vary according to weather and trail conditions, keeping every ride authentic and safe.
We’ll visit attractions such as Neuquén (Arrival), Caviahue & Copahue, Salto del Agrio Waterfall, Trolope River Valley, Araucaria Backcountry & Estancia El Morado.
We’ll enjoy activities such as:
After breakfast, help gather and move the herd alongside local gauchos. Lunch by a mountain stream, then continue to summer pastures. Camp just meters from a small waterfall on the Río Agrio, and enjoy roasted lamb cooked over open fire.
Ride to Salto del Agrio, where the river plunges into a colorful basalt canyon. Picnic near the crater and a refreshing swim opportunity. In the afternoon, cross beneath centuries-old Araucaria trees (Monkey Puzzle). Overnight at Trolope River camp.
A full mountain day: 5 hours of steady ascent to reach a secluded valley with natural hot springs fed by the Copahue volcano. Camp by the springs and relax under the stars.
A lighter day, perfect for some gallops. Ride 2–3 hours to a hidden mountain lagoon, picnic by the water, and—if you wish—swim with your horse. Return to the hot-spring camp in about two hours.
Ride through high valleys and stop for lunch beneath willows. Continue a few more hours to a rustic mountain hut with views of Cerro El Morado.
Descend to a riverside beach on the Agrio. Along the way, spot remains from Argentina’s frontier history—old stone markers and relics. Lunch and siesta by the river before an easy final ride back to the farmhouse. Farewell dinner and storytelling.
Breakfast and private transfer back to Neuquén Airport for your onward flight. Optional trip extensions available.
We invite you to explore other tours!
Formerly known as Estancia Ñorquín, Morado Ranch spans over 21,000 hectares and runs around 900 Angus cattle. The 5th generation keeps the land alive through ranching and tourism. Siblings and cousins all contribute—Martín and Azul lead the expeditions with gauchos and local cooks.
