Tolar Grande and the Altiplano: 4×4 crossing in Argentina

Today you start your 4×4 adventure!
After breakfast, you will start your journey from Salto to Purmamarca, Jujuy, going thru Uquía, sightseeing the colorful hills in Humahuaca, the ruins and hills of Tilcara and reaching Purmamarca to spend the night there in a beautiful hotel.

You continue with your Inhospitable Puna Experience thru route 52. You will zic-zac along the side of the hills in Cuesta de Lipán until you reach the Salinas Grandes, where you are going to stop and see this natural wonder, stand on it and marvel and the taste and smell of it.
After that you will stop by the little town of Susques, a picturesque little place where you can take the most wonderful pictures of the streets with the colored hills in the background.
You will cross to Chile thru the Paso de Jama, and get to San Pedro de Atacama at night, where you will rest for the night.

In San Pedro de Atacama you will get see the Geysers del Tatio, which are the biggest group of geysers in the southern hemisphere and the third largest in the world. The show that they put along with the background views is truly one of a kind.
And if that was not enough, you are going to enjoy the sunset at Valle de la Luna.
After such a day, you will go back to the hotel and rest.

Today you will leave San Pedro de Atacama to reach Tolar Grande, where you will be spending the night.
You will do several stops along the way, Lagunas Miscanti y Miniques, being the first. Here you will see how among the desert in Atacama there is this beautiful lake, from where you can see the mountains in the background. It’s a mix of colors worth seeing.
You will be welcome back to Argentina thru Paso de Sico and from there you will go to see the Salar de Pocitos, another salt park.
And last, you will reach Tolar Grande going thru Desierto del Laberinto, where you think you might get lost.

Going thru the little town of Caipe, you will reach the salt flats of Salar Río Grande, enjoy Mina La Casualidad and go back to Tolar Grande. Here you will spend another night and relax.

You will departure Tolar Grande in the morning towards Cono de Arita, which is a cone in the middle of the wild desert. Passing thru the paradise that is Oasis Antofallita & Antofalla and Antofagasta de la Sierra, where there are termal waters.
Once you reach El Peñon, you will rest up and recharge you energies for tomorrow.

Today you will stay in the area of El Peñón to see the Campo Piedra Pómes, with miles and miles of pumice, and Laguna Grande, which is full of flamingos.
At the end of the day you will go back to El Peñón to spend the night.

Today you are leaving El Peñón and heading to Cafayate, the land of wine! Here you can enjoy a good glass of good Argentinian wine when you get there!
To get there first you will pass thru Hualfin, high in the mountains! Enjoy a little bit of Santa María, which is, as they say, “The Capital of Archeology”. In Quilmes you will see ruins of old civilizations. It is an impressive thing to see, all the history of Diaguita culture right there.

Continuing your tour now from Cafayate to Molinos where you will spend the night!
On the way there you will make several stops, Quebrada de las Conchas is the first, you will see from the bottom the colorful cliffs and walk among them. You will also drive thru Quebrada de las flechas, where the rocks look like arrows pointed toward the sky.

The last day of the tours, sadly! Today you go back to Salta, but of course make some stops along the way. The little town of Cachi is a beautiful and tranquil place. In Los Cardones you have to be careful not to fall, you will get to see a field of cactus. And you will do the last part of the trip driving on the side of the hills of Cuesta del Obispo.

At an agreed upon time, a transfer will pick your up to take you to the airport so you can take your plane back home!
