The province of Misiones is part of the Litoral from Argentina, and it’s quite green in comparison with other provinces of Argentina. The “Paranaense” jungle covers a huge part of its territory, and is home to all kinds of species, both flora and fauna. On this trip we plan to make an overland journey across the province, going from Posadas to Moconá, and from Moconá to Iguazu. The Iguazú Falls will -probably- be the cherry on the cake of this trip, not only for the falls but also for the experience at La Lorenza.
Additionally, this journey takes you to the province of Corrientes, most precisely to the Ibera Wetlands. The Ibera Wetlands are the “Pantanal” from Argentina, and it has different “gates” or zones to visit. The zone that we’re including on this trip is actually pretty close to Posadas (your arrival city), which allow you to visit the region in a more comfortable way.
This tour allows you to have a fantastic overview of the attractions across the Misiones province, combining the Jesuits Ruins, the Mocona Waterfalls, and the Iguazu Falls – among other attractions. Additionally, as you start from Posadas city, you can strategically integrate the Ibera Wetlands on your tour, without having to travel overland for long distances (as the wetlands usually require).
Flight from Buenos Aires to Posadas (province of Misiones). Then, we’ll head to Hotel Puerto Valle, a former ranch (a.k.a. “Estancia”) at the Ibera Wetlands (province of Corrientes). This is about 45 minutes from the airport. We plan to explore the wetlands and its animals, while we rest at this comfortable place. Likewise, we’ll learn a lot about the Gaucho’s culture.
We plan to stay 3 nights (flexible tour) at Puerto Valle Lodge. This means that we’ll have 2 full days to explore the marshlands and its attractions. During your stay at the lodge you’ll have an amazing wildlife experience, sharing your days with the vast number of species that inhabit the wetlands, such as the Capibaras, Caimans, Ñandúes, Marsh Deer’s among many other species.
There are different kinds of activities that we can enjoy, such as:
After breakfast, private transfer to Saltos del Moconá, with a stop over at the Jesuitic Missions of San Ignacio de Miní.
This was one of the different missions built in the 17th Century by the Jesuits. The ruins are one of the best well-maintained in the area, and have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. We’ll stop for about 2 hours and learn about the history of the Jesuits, the Guaraníes (indigenous people), and how they interacted among each other.
We’ll continue then toward the Mocona Falls, where we’ll stay for 3 nights at the Don Mocona Virgin Lodge.
This will take us a full day in total (approx. 340 km).
Near to the city of El Soberbio (also Misones province), we can find the picturesque lodge of Mocona Virgin Lodge, where we’ll stay for 3 nights.
The idea is to explore the area, particularly the Mocona Falls (Saltos del Moconá). These waterfalls are quite impressive, not for its height, but for its lenght: it runs paralel to the river for about 3 km!
The geographic formation of the river bed on this section lies on two different levels. As a result, when the level of the water is good enough (which we should check in advance), we can see how the water from one side falls to the other side producing a natural waterfall for about 2 or 3 km. This is very impressive to see!
Private transfer from El Soberbio to Puerto Iguazú (320 km). Rest of the day to enjoy at your preferred lodge in Iguazu. We suggest Loi Suites Iguazu, at the Iryapú Reserve.
This itinerary, which is flexible (and can be adapted to your needs and preferences), is designed in a way that you can spend your last 3 nights in the area of Iguazu Falls.
The idea is to visit the Argentinian side of the falls (where are most of the waterfalls), the brazilian side, and to explore other spots such as “La Lorenza”.
La Lorenza is a place by the Parana River where you will visit the house of a local couple that work on conservation, and share a profound love for nature. The house is in the heart of the jungle, and there are a lot of different things you can do and enjoy around (we can adapt this to your convenience). We invite you to explore this place here: La Lorenza Iguazu.
Transfer to the airport and end of our tour in the province of Misiones!
