Day-by-Day Itinerary
Puerto Madryn
Welcome to Northern Patagonia! Your self-drive adventure officially begins upon arrival at Trelew Airport, where you’ll pick up your rental vehicle and begin the drive north toward Puerto Madryn. Along the way, you may choose to detour toward Punta Loma Reserve and its dramatic coastal scenery, or stop at El Doradillo Beach for your first unforgettable introduction to Patagonia’s Atlantic coastline.Set off today for Península Valdés, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its extraordinary wildlife. If you travel between mid-June and early December, don’t miss the opportunity to sail from Puerto Pirámides to witness southern right whales in their natural habitat. Further along at Caleta Valdés and Punta Norte, massive colonies of elephant seals and sea lions line the shores beneath dramatic cliffs. As you explore the peninsula, keep an eye out for native wildlife such as guanacos, choiques, and maras roaming the Patagonian landscape.Gaiman
Dedicate the day to visiting Punta Tombo, home to the largest continental colony of Magellanic penguins in South America. Travel south through the vast Patagonian landscape to reach this protected coastal reserve. Once there, follow the 3-kilometer interpretive trail that winds directly through the rookery, bringing you remarkably close to thousands of penguins as they tend their nests, care for their burrows, or waddle toward the Atlantic surf. On your way back, stop in the historic Welsh town of Gaiman to enjoy a traditional Welsh afternoon tea service — the perfect ending to an unforgettable day.Esquel
Today’s drive from Gaiman to Esquel takes you deep into the heart of Chubut Province, transitioning beautifully from the greener valleys of the Atlantic coast into the dramatic landscapes of the Andean foothills. Leaving behind the charming Welsh atmosphere of Gaiman, you’ll travel west through geological wonders such as the towering red-rock canyons of Los Altares framing the winding Chubut River. As the journey continues, the arid plains gradually give way to rolling hills and cooler mountain air before arriving in Esquel, a welcoming mountain town at the gateway to Los Alerces National Park.Explore Los Alerces National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its crystal-clear lakes, dramatic mountain scenery, and ancient forests. Wander peaceful trails through the Valdivian temperate rainforest or embark on a scenic boat navigation across the park’s glassy waters to reach the legendary Alerce Milenario. Here, you’ll stand before giant millennia-old Alerce trees, some of which have thrived for more than 3,000 years.Discover the charming town of Trevelin, a historic Welsh settlement nestled within a picturesque valley just outside Esquel. If you travel in October, you’ll witness one of Patagonia’s most spectacular seasonal displays as the tulip fields burst into vibrant colors framed by the Andes Mountains. Beyond the tulips, immerse yourself in the town’s rich heritage by strolling through rose-lined streets, visiting the local historical museum, and enjoying a traditional Welsh tea service featuring regional cakes and pastries.El Bolsón
Continue your Puerto Madryn to Bariloche Road Trip Itinerary along iconic Ruta Nacional 40 toward El Bolsón in Río Negro Province. The route cuts through the dramatic transition where the Patagonian steppe meets the rising Andes, offering views of snow-capped peaks and endless open skies. Before arriving, we recommend a detour to Lago Puelo for a scenic hike to the Mirador del Lago viewpoint and the chance to sample the region’s famous artisanal alfajores. The paved drive passes through peaceful valley towns such as Epuyén and El Hoyo, creating the perfect transition from the rugged beauty of Chubut to the artisan spirit of El Bolsón.We recommend dedicating the day to exploring the region’s spectacular natural scenery. Hike to the turquoise waters of the Cajón del Azul gorge or ascend Cerro Piltriquitrón to discover the unique Bosque Tallado sculptures. After a day outdoors, stroll through the charming town center and sample the area’s celebrated craft beers and artisanal berry delicacies.Bariloche
A new destination awaits: Bariloche. This scenic two-hour drive along Ruta Nacional 40 takes you deep into the heart of the Patagonian Andes, where towering peaks, dense native forests, and the glacier-carved shorelines of Lago Guillelmo and Lago Mascardi create unforgettable scenery. It’s a seamless and incredibly beautiful route that perfectly connects the laid-back mountain atmosphere of El Bolsón with the alpine energy and dramatic landscapes of Bariloche.Set out today on the classic Circuito Chico scenic drive. This iconic route follows the shores of Lago Nahuel Huapi and Lago Moreno while revealing unforgettable highlights such as the panoramic summit views from Cerro Campanario and the peaceful forest trails surrounding Llao Llao. To end the perfect day, visit a local microbrewery at golden hour — there’s no better way to welcome the Patagonian evening than sitting beside an outdoor fire pit with a regional craft beer while the sun sets over the mountains.Take the day to fully relax and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Lakes District with a peaceful navigation to Puerto Blest or a more secluded experience exploring Brazo Tristeza. If you prefer hiking, Bariloche offers an exceptional variety of trails ranging from gentle lakeside walks to demanding mountain treks, allowing you to tailor the day entirely to your rhythm. Whichever experience you choose, don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of the city’s artisanal chocolate shops to complete the perfect Bariloche day. This final scenic loop takes you beyond Bariloche through the surreal landscapes of Valle Encantado before continuing toward the serene mountain village of Villa Traful. Here, a stop at Wind Cliff rewards you with breathtaking views overlooking the deep blue lake below. The journey then winds through dense Patagonian forests toward Villa La Angostura, where you can spend a relaxed afternoon wandering alpine-style streets or exploring the peaceful bays of the Quetrihué Peninsula — a truly unforgettable finale to your Patagonian road trip.Your unforgettable journey connecting one coast of Patagonia to the other comes to an end today. Head to Bariloche Airport to return your rental vehicle before boarding your flight to your next destination.Where to Stay

What Our Travelers Say
TripAdvisor
My dream was to go to Patagonia. I was planning it for a long time but decided to find someone who could help me with it. I was assigned with Lucila and this is when my dream stared coming true. She was the most attentive, helpful, and caring person. Listened to every concern I had and paid attention to all my wishes regarding how I want this trip to be like. When the itinerary was ready and the trip booked, she made sure everything was going smoothly. While in Argentina, I can't think of anything that went not according to plan. All the trips, pick-ups, activities were perfectly planned and Lucila was always within reach in case I had any questions. Honestly, this trip was a dream come true and the service quality impeccable. Now, I can't imagine planning my next trip to Argentina with anyone else

Enjoyable experience in Patagonia Beyond BA , especially Alvaro, our advisor, did a great job helping plan our itinerary in Patagonia. Alvaro was very responsive and gave us good insights/advices during the planning process. At the onset and everyday we received reminders/updates on our drivers and activities for the next day. The whole trip was arranged smoothly and local operators/guides and drivers were all reliable and helpful. We enjoyed our trip and will definitely use them again if I go back to Argentina.

Their professionalism is of the highest standards. Lucila (our contact) followed us from the very beginning throughout our journey with her support and advice. All the reservations, flights, guides were as scheduled. It was amazing. To everyone that wishes to visit Argentina, only one travel agency: Beyond.....
Victoria and the team were Exceptional!!! Every email I sent was promptly answered, bookings and payments made easy with Beyond BA and Victoria's professionalism. Highly recommended to book through Beyond BA. Our tour was to Patagonia for hiking and it was an amazing experience. Great value for money. One of the most organised I've been on. Only having to carry day packs on the hikes was a bonus and the camp grounds were comfortable and an experience in its self. There was 3 of us and Victoria secured us triple rooms when not camping. Can not recommend Beyond BA highly enough and Victoria, thank you
