Day-by-Day Itinerary

Salta

Welcome to the magic of the Northwest! Upon arrival in Salta, settle in and head to the nearby Quebrada de San Lorenzo, a lush forest that feels worlds away from the desert. This area, part of the Yungas ecosystem, offers beautiful walking trails through dense vegetation and alongside mountain streams. It’s the perfect place to begin your outdoor adventure beneath the shade of ancient trees.

Cafayate

Get ready to begin your journey through the Calchaquí Valleys. Leaving Salta behind, the route takes you into the heart of Quebrada de las Conchas, where millions of years of erosion have sculpted surreal red and orange formations into natural landmarks such as The Amphitheater and The Devil’s Throat. While most visitors stop only at the main viewpoints, this itinerary goes further with a trek through La Yesera. This easy walk along the Los Estratos trail leads through a landscape of violet and ochre rock formations resembling a geological rainbow. After exploring this ancient seabed on foot, continue to Cafayate, where the day concludes among vineyards with a tasting of the region’s celebrated high-altitude wines.

Cachi

Following the legendary Route 40, the journey continues north from Cafayate toward Cachi. The landscape transforms dramatically as you enter Quebrada de las Flechas, where sharp rock formations rise toward the sky like a giant stone forest. The drive winds through the heart of the Calchaquí Valleys, passing historic villages and spectacular high-altitude scenery. By evening, you’ll arrive in Cachi, a charming colonial town known for its whitewashed adobe buildings, cobblestone streets, and the imposing Nevado de Cachi.Prepare for an off-road expedition to Cuevas de Acsibi. After a 4x4 journey through dry riverbeds, you'll begin a trek into a hidden canyon of deep red sandstone. These remarkable formations create a natural cathedral of rock where sunlight illuminates the crimson walls with an almost magical glow. After exploring this remote and peaceful landscape, return to Cachi for a well-earned rest.

Purmamarca

Today’s adventure takes you across the vast high-altitude landscapes of the Altiplano. Departing Cachi, travel through rugged terrain toward San Antonio de los Cobres, famous for the iconic Train to the Clouds bridge. This is a day of immense horizons and dramatic mountain passes as you make your way toward the Quebrada de Humahuaca. By evening, you’ll arrive in the picturesque village of Purmamarca, nestled beneath the legendary Hill of Seven Colors. While it is one of the longest driving days of the itinerary, the ever-changing scenery makes it one of the most rewarding.Ascend the winding Cuesta de Lipán, climbing above 4,100 masl for breathtaking views of the Andes. From there, descend into the dazzling white expanse of Salinas Grandes, one of Argentina’s most impressive salt flats. After exploring this extraordinary landscape, return to Purmamarca for a late-afternoon walk along the Paseo de los Colorados, where the red rock formations glow beautifully in the evening light.Continue your Salta Hiking Tour through the spectacular Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with ancient villages and colorful mountain landscapes. Explore the historic ruins of Tilcara and the colonial church of Uquía before heading off-road to trek through Quebrada de las Señoritas, a hidden gem featuring winding trails through deep red canyons and white mineral formations. Later, continue to Humahuaca and ascend to the breathtaking Serranías del Hornocal, also known as the 14-Colored Mountain, where you'll witness one of the most spectacular geological formations in Argentina before returning to Purmamarca.

Purmamarca - Iruya

Today, journey to the remote village of Iruya. Travel north through the heart of the Quebrada de Humahuaca before climbing to Abra del Cóndor, reaching approximately 4,000 masl. From this mountain pass, descend into a hidden valley to reach Iruya, one of the most picturesque villages in the Andes. Explore its steep cobblestone streets and traditional houses clinging to the mountainside. Once settled, we recommend a short hike to the Mirador de la Cruz for panoramic views over the village and surrounding valley.

Iruya - Purmamarca

Set out on a trek to the hidden community of San Isidro. This scenic hike follows the riverbed through a colorful gorge, the only route connecting this isolated village to the outside world. With no road access, San Isidro has preserved its peaceful and authentic atmosphere. After enjoying the tranquility of the village and surrounding mountains, return to Purmamarca later in the afternoon.

Purmamarca - Yungas

Today, leave the high Andes behind and journey into the lush Yungas. You’ll spend the next few days in a hidden retreat surrounded by subtropical mountain forest. Here, the landscape transforms into a world of dense vegetation, exotic birds, and drifting mist. Spend the afternoon exploring forest trails, birdwatching, or simply relaxing and listening to the sounds of nature from your countryside lodge.

Yungas

Spend the next days exploring this extraordinary ecosystem on foot or horseback. The Yungas combine dense jungle landscapes with dramatic mountain views and opportunities to encounter wildlife such as tapirs, giant anteaters, and even the elusive jaguar. Keep an eye out for colorful toucans, hummingbirds, and military macaws among the forest canopy. Accompanied by expert local guides, you’ll learn about conservation efforts and how to responsibly explore this unique environment.Spend the next days exploring this extraordinary ecosystem on foot or horseback. Jujuy OUT

Your adventure comes to an end today. At the scheduled time, you’ll be transferred to Jujuy Airport for your departing flight. As you leave the Northwest behind, you’ll carry with you the colors of the mountains, the silence of the Puna, and the unforgettable spirit of the Argentine Andes.

What Our Travelers Say

TripAdvisor

My dream was to go to Patagonia. I was planning it for a long time but decided to find someone who could help me with it. I was assigned with Lucila and this is when my dream stared coming true. She was the most attentive, helpful, and caring person. Listened to every concern I had and paid attention to all my wishes regarding how I want this trip to be like. When the itinerary was ready and the trip booked, she made sure everything was going smoothly. While in Argentina, I can't think of anything that went not according to plan. All the trips, pick-ups, activities were perfectly planned and Lucila was always within reach in case I had any questions. Honestly, this trip was a dream come true and the service quality impeccable. Now, I can't imagine planning my next trip to Argentina with anyone else

Enjoyable experience in Patagonia Beyond BA , especially Alvaro, our advisor, did a great job helping plan our itinerary in Patagonia. Alvaro was very responsive and gave us good insights/advices during the planning process. At the onset and everyday we received reminders/updates on our drivers and activities for the next day. The whole trip was arranged smoothly and local operators/guides and drivers were all reliable and helpful. We enjoyed our trip and will definitely use them again if I go back to Argentina.

I suppose that Beyond BA got its name… I suppose that Beyond BA got its name from the fact that its organization of trips is BEYOND any expectations one can imagine. Their professionalism is of the highest standards. Lucila (our contact) followed us from the very beginning throughout our journey with her support and advice. All the reservations, flights, guides were as scheduled. It was amazing. To everyone that wishes to visit Argentina, only one travel agency: Beyond.....

Victoria and the team were Exceptional!!! Every email I sent was promptly answered, bookings and payments made easy with Beyond BA and Victoria's professionalism. Highly recommended to book through Beyond BA. Our tour was to Patagonia for hiking and it was an amazing experience. Great value for money. One of the most organised I've been on. Only having to carry day packs on the hikes was a bonus and the camp grounds were comfortable and an experience in its self. There was 3 of us and Victoria secured us triple rooms when not camping. Can not recommend Beyond BA highly enough and Victoria, thank you
