Flights in Patagonia: Puerto Natales opens its new local airport.
After many years of delays and everlasting stopovers to reach in, Puerto Natales is proud to announce that from December 2016 onwards the local airport will be ready to operate.
Located in the Chilean Patagonia, Puerto Natales is the gate to Torres del Paine, considered one of the best places in the world to do hiking and nature contemplation. It has certainly some of the most beautiful landscapes in South America, including an impressive variety of panoramic views to the Towers and the Horns.
Until now, the only way to reach this region was basically through Punta Arenas (with a flight coming from Santiago, plus an overland transfer of around 3 hours), El Calafate (flights coming from Buenos Aires, plus a 4 hs transfer including the border crossing between Argentina and Chile), or arriving on a Cruise from Ushuaia or Puerto Montt.
Naturally, all these options were suitable if the visitor was keen on combining Torres del Paine with, for example, Glacier Perito Moreno, or any other excursion in the area. But the inconvenience that it used to be present in many times, was that at some point the people had to be in a logistic struggle to reach a comfortable way to get in or get out, especially if they needed to comply with tight schedules.
Having direct flights to Puerto Natales will make things easier for all: locals and visitors. At the moment, there will be 2 weekly flights -on Tuesdays & Saturdays, from Santiago de Chile- from December to February, which are the months when the people travel more.
The airlines operating this route will be LAN & Sky Airlines. LAN will provide a direct flight from Santiago de Chile to Puerto Natales, and the way back with a stopover in Punta Arenas. The company is planning to use an Airbus A320, which is Ecofriendly and has a capacity for 174 passengers.
The Airport is expected to get over 7500 passengers this season, and we wish you to be one of them!
We invite you to take a look at our tours in Patagonia, and to count on us to get the best advice for your next trip to this beautiful region.
